Jennifer joined the Agile Monkey front desk staff in early 2013, with the added intention of completing the Balanced Body instructor training program. After many years of dedicated study and with her two sons finishing college, she fulfilled her goal of becoming a certified Pilates instructor.
Jennifer's approach to teaching is guided by her passion for Pilates, and the desire to help other's achieve their goals in a supportive and meaningful way. She feels great, and she wants you to feel great too!

In addition, she has extensive training working with clients with Scoliosis. One of her long time clients (ten years) has seen dramatic results and shared this testimonial: “After a session with Karen I stand taller and straighter, and my body is noticeably more balanced. I am free of discomfort and walk away feeling better about the way I look and feel! I will never stop working with Karen.”
Karen is equally comfortable teaching a full range of fitness levels from athletic to rehab oriented. She has been able to help her clients with back, neck, shoulder, knee, hip and foot issues, and is experienced working with clients who have Osteoporosis, Scoliosis, MS, Parkinson's disease, and Spinal Stenosis. Avra is extremely enthusiastic about teaching Pilates because her clients experience tremendous benefits in fitness as well as a pain-free lifestyle. She is devoted to helping people reach their goals and aspirations through an individualized training program and specific exercises to maximize recovery from pain and injury.
Her Reformer classes are unique because of her caring, personal attention, and because they are fun, creative, fresh, energetic and interesting through using Reformers and other studio equipment as well as 10-15 minutes of mat core work (with props). This format is especially important for clients that take her classes several times a week, year after year after year. Her Active Agers Reformer class incorporates training for clients with osteoporosis/osteopenia.
Avra has personally felt the changes in her fitness, health and dancing. She discovered Pilates after a hip injury which had kept her in pain on and off for years; there was even a time that she was immobile in bed for three days. But Pilates has brought relief from all this and has kept her free of pain for many years. She is also a passionate competitive ballroom dancer competing in International Latin with her teacher. Avra has struggled in the past with her dancing because that hip injury made her body compensate in ways that were detrimental to her balance, coordination, core, flexibility and strength. She has been very motivated to find solutions to her issues (resulting also in solutions for her clients) especially since her teacher is one of the top dancers/coaches in the world and is very demanding. When they compete together (going all over the United States), he expects her to rise up to his level since they are judged together as a couple. Talk about pressure! Thankfully, Pilates really helped resulting in better form and freer dancing.
Certified by both BBU and PMA, Avra's extensive Pilates training includes specialized training in shoulder/neck issues, low back/knee/foot pain, postural alignment, scoliosis, osteoporosis, and pre- & post-natal care as well as CoreAlign. On top of her competition experience, she has a considerable background in yoga and various other forms of dance. She also has a master's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she used to teach.
Azita is a CSUC graduate with a BS degree in Agriculture. She is a sport enthusiast and enjoys running, water and snow skiing, scuba diving, spinning, step aerobics, and Zumba. She also has a passion for foreign languages, speaking fluent Farsi, Portuguese, Spanish, and a bit of Italian.
With a chronic neck and shoulder pain, Azita has been through years of physical therapy and yoga. In 2006, she was introduced to Pilates where she began to see a clear path to the road to recovery. Pilates eased the pain, allowing her to become more active. In 2009, due to some health issues, Azita was confined to bed rest for 3 months. After recovering, she decided to put 23 years of managing her own business behind, to start practicing pilates at Agile Monkey, where she has been instructed by three wonderful instructors Ky, Lisa and Arwen. Pilates has allowed Azita to regain muscle strength, ease her neck and shoulder pains, and helped with her SI joint hypermobility. She fell in love with Pilates and decided to embark on her Pilates instructor training program and completed her training under Lisa Graham through Balanced Body at Agile Monkey.
Because of her history of injuries and expertise in Scoliosis, Azita is very eager to pass on the knowledge of healing capabilities on to her clients and help them discover how their bodies can become pain free. She is careful to make sure that no one exceeds his or her body limits, maintaining a steady pace to allow her clients to feel comfortable. She is devoted to pilates and is eager to become the best instructor she can be for her clients.
