Karen is a teacher, healer and lifelong learner. She uses a holistic approach to her teaching addressing the body mind, and spirit. She educates you to understand how to take care of your own body to eliminate faulty movement patterns that could lead to pain or injury.
Karen has been teaching Pilates for fifteen years, and is certified by two internationally renowned programs: the Physical Mind Institute as well as Body Arts & Science International (BASI). In addition, she has extensive training working with clients with Scoliosis. One of her long time clients (ten years) has seen dramatic results and shared this testimonial: “After a session with Karen I stand taller and straighter, and my body is noticeably more balanced. Karen is equally comfortable teaching a full range of fitness levels from athletic to rehab oriented. She has been able to help her clients with back, neck, shoulder, knee, hip and foot issues, and is experienced working with clients who have Osteoporosis, Scoliosis, MS, Parkinson's disease, and Spinal Stenosis. Her greatest joy comes from showing people how Pilates relates to their daily life helping to eliminate pain, and create strong flexible bodies. Barb comes with a background in competitive bodybuilding and ballet, as well as Spanish Classical Flamenco (she was a dance company member for the Patri Nader Dances of Spain from 1988-1992). Her fascination for the mind-body connection and how Pilates has made a long-lasting improvement in her mental and physical well being has kept her craving for more. For Barb, "Pilates is my sanctuary, a place to leave my busy life at the door, to take a deep cleansing breath, focus and ground myself into the practice of the ultimate movement principles of Joseph Pilates". Observing the exceptional group of talented Agile Monkey Pilates instructors is also a motivating factor towards taking the next step of becoming a Pilates instructor. Barb's over 20 years of nursing experience, her hands on ability to care and nurture for others and how that relates closely to teaching Pilates has led her to pursue her Pilates Certification with Balanced Body, which she attained in 2015.
